Dear Colleagues,

There is a large body of research on deaf children's literacy development. However, staff working with deaf children do not always know how to translate research findings into classroom practice. This free one day event is aimed at teaching staff and speech and language therapists and will focus on ways of putting research into practice.

There is a large body of research on deaf children's literacy development. However, staff working with deaf children do not always know how to translate research findings into classroom practice. This one day event is aimed at  teaching staff and speech and language therapists and will focus on ways of putting research into practice.

The day will be divided into two workshops: the morning session will focus on the development of decoding skills and the afternoon session will look at targeting the language skills that underpin literacy. In each session, teachers and speech and language therapists will share examples of how they work on skills underlying deaf children's literacy, linked to research findings. There will be opportunities for discussion about the the practicalities of supporting literacy development in deaf children.

BSL interpreters have been booked.

Registration and tea/coffee from 9.30 am. Lunch will be provided. Please email any dietary requirements to the course organiser.
