Cataloguing Strategist (Royal Archives)
The Royal Household
Location: Windsor Castle
Two Year Fixed-term Contract
Salary: £31,000 per annum, pro rata, plus benefits and a 15% employer-contribution pension scheme
Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week
About the role

It's bringing centuries of archives into the digital age.

It's finding innovative ways to make progress, and it's the satisfaction of working with a truly unique collection. This is what makes working for The Royal Household exceptional.

The Royal Archives has a uniquely rich and engrossing history, containing manuscripts of the official and personal archives of the Sovereign and Members of the Royal Family spanning 250 years.

Your challenge will be to design and then help implement a cataloguing and metadata master-plan for the Royal Archives.

You will identify data already available as part of the architecture design, and manage the conversion of current cataloguing systems and card indexes onto a new digital platform. Reporting to the Archives Manager, you'll lead varied cataloguing projects, re-using these existing data and assessing the need for enhanced metadata creation.

Developing the cataloguing and enquiries service provided by the Archives and Library, you'll provide advice and support to teams across the organisation. You'll also be part of the team introducing archiving strategies for born digital records.

In everything you do, you'll aim to provide a range of search services to engage a growing audience with an expanding collection of records.

About you

With an archives related post-graduate qualification, you'll know how to apply standards-based archive cataloguing logic, have experience of online delivery of digitised records, and be eager to take on the challenges of working with a mix of historic and current records.

You'll enjoy working independently, and also within a small and supportive team.

A methodical worker, with excellent problem solving and time management skills, you'll able to deliver within a deadline-driven environment.

A natural communicator, you'll be confident liaising with a broad spectrum of people on a daily basis and producing written reports when necessary, your attention to detail will therefore be important too.

In return you will be rewarded with a comprehensive benefits package, including 25 days holiday (exclusive of Bank Holidays), a 15% employer contribution pension scheme (with the option for flexibility - to increase contributions or draw down as salary), lunch provided, with on the job training and development, as well as a range of out of hours recreational facilities.
Closing Date: Sunday 15th May 2016
