The £80,000 a year ritual of printing British laws on calf-skin is "good
value for money", argue Devon MPs, as Parliament opts to continue with
the centuries-old tradition.
Earlier this year, the House of
Lords called for the age-old practice of printing on vellum to be
abandoned in favour of a more cost-effective method.
But
defending the custom in the House of Commons, MPs stated it not only
formed an important part of UK heritage, but could preserve documents
for up to 5,000 years.
