Bookings & Further Information: www.scottisharchives.org.uk/copyright/duration<http://www.scottisharchives.org.uk/copyright/duration> Scottish Council on Archives is collaborating with CREATe to deliver a series of capacity-building workshops for the Scottish archive sector (June 2014 - June 2016). These latest events will focus on the way in which the duration of copyright protection impacts the work of the archivist: a notoriously complicated area of the law. In addition to providing attendees with an introduction to the different terms of protection that can affect material in archive collections, the workshop will include group exercises based on real collections to demonstrate the impact and application of the legislation. We will also explore the related concepts of authorship and ownership in detail. The topic of duration was selected for these workshops based on feedback gathered from previous attendees. DATES There are two opportunities to attend this workshop: * 27 May 2016, 13:30-16:30 - Edinburgh * 17 June 2016, 13:30-16:30 - Perth COST Attendance is free of charge but is restricted to services/individuals based in Scotland. We anticipate high demand and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. PROGRAMME Delivered in an informal lecture-style with interactive group exercises based on real archive collections, the event will last from 13:30 until 16:30. We will serve afternoon refreshments, but please note that lunch is not provided. FACILITATOR Victoria Stobo joined CREATe, School of Law, as a Research Assistant working on the Copyright & Risk: Scoping the Wellcome Digital Library project, before starting the linked PhD study, Archives, Digitisation and Copyright, in September 2013. She is a qualified archivist and teaches Law and Cultural Institutions on the MSc in Information Management and Preservation in HATII at the University of Glasgow. She was recently appointed Copyright Policy Adviser to the Scottish Council on Archives and represents SCA at meetings of the World Intellectual Property Organisation's Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights.
