Unestablished University Lecturer (non-clinical) in Applied Statistical Genomics, University of Cambridge Salary: £38,896 - £49,230 The Department of Public Health and Primary Care, one of Europe’s leading academic departments of population health sciences, wishes to appoint a University Lecturer in Applied Statistical Genomics. The post-holder will be a talented scientist who has a primary interest in the analysis and interpretation of genomic data to advance aetiological understanding, principally focusing on cardiovascular diseases and related traits. The post-holder will have expertise in statistical genetics, genomic science, and cardiovascular epidemiology. He/she will provide leadership in establishing new applied research programmes as well as exploit exciting existing and new large-scale studies, and have an ability to engage with methodological statisticians. The post-holder will have access to an outstanding academic environment in Cambridge, including the recently awarded NIHR Biomedical Research Unit in Donor Health and Genomics (in partnership with the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute) and the British Heart Foundation Centre of Excellence in Cardiovascular Science. The main responsibilities of the post-holder will include: • Establishment of research programmes in cardiovascular global health with a strong biomedical and/or public health emphasis, in the context of population health science, consistent with the overall objectives and strategies of the CEU • Contribution to the organisation, development, delivery, and assessment of teaching in the various programmes run by the CEU. It is expected that the post-holder will, in due course, take responsibility for the academic direction of a particular programme of teaching. The post holder will have a strong research background in statistical genomics coupled with good understanding of epidemiology, cardiovascular science and biomedical science. This will be demonstrated by relevant post-graduate qualifications (eg, a PhD in statistics, genomics, epidemiology, or a relevant quantitative discipline would normally be expected) with a track record of producing high-impact publications in internationally-recognised scientific journals. The post holder will also have a track record, or clear demonstration of potential, for leading an independent programme of research and attracting research funds to support scientific work and a track record, or clear demonstration of potential, for leading the analysis of large-scale complex genetic consortia with the ability to supervise the development and adaptation of new statistical methods to support applied research, experience of teaching and excellent verbal and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills. The funds for these posts are available for 5 years in the first instance. This is a full-time appointment available to start in May 2016.
