The PhD students of the Statistical Ecology group at the University of Kent are organising a free Statistical Ecology Research Festival (SERF) on the 7th June 2016. This is a great opportunity for postgraduate students in Statistics and Ecology to meet to discuss their research and present their work. We are now calling for abstracts for oral presentations and posters.

Could you please pass this information on to your students?

The Statistical Ecology Research Festival (SERF) is a one day event for postgraduate students in Statistics and/or Ecology. SERF is a great opportunity for statistics students to learn more about ecological data, how they are collected, what specific questions ecologists are trying to answer by collecting the data and the practical problems that can be encountered in the field. Ecology students will have the chance to learn more about the wide array of statistical techniques used to analyse ecological data, the challenges faced from a statistician’s perspective and emerging areas of statistical research.

The event will comprise of oral presentations and posters given by statistical ecology and quantitative ecology students. There will also be a round table discussion, which will allow statisticians and ecologists to share their research and the problems they might encounter. Moreover, at the end of the day, there will be a talk about applying to the fellowship scheme of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC).

This event is fully funded by the Eastern ARC Event Fund. In order to encourage postgraduate students to join this event, registration is free and we are also offering to help cover the travel expenses for those students who present at the event (we are able to contribute up to £50 towards travel expenses of participants giving oral presentations). There will also be prizes for the best talk and the three best posters. For more information please visit http://tiny.cc/SERF

Please submit your abstracts to  http://tiny.cc/SERFregister by 8th May 2016.
