2 x NIHR RESEARCH METHODS INTERNSHIPS IN MEDICAL STATISTICS

Applications are invited for two summer internships at the University of Manchester funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Research Methods Programme, and are aimed at individuals interested in a career in medical statistics. The payrate will be £11.53, inclusive of holiday pay.

NIHR Research Methods Internships are aimed at the brightest undergraduates (e.g. in mathematics, economics or physics) for the summer following the second year of their degree (or third year of a four year degree). The internships are full time and available for a period of 8 weeks between June and August 2016, although specific dates can be agreed with the successful candidate. They will be based at The University of Manchester on Oxford Road, Manchester.

Internship 1:

The first internship is offered at the Centre for Biostatistics in the Institute of Population Health.  You will be supervised by Martina McMenamin (NIHR Research Methods Fellow), Dr Richard Emsley (Senior Lecturer in Biostatistics) and Professor Graham Dunn (Professor of Biomedical Statistics).

 

Internship 2:

The second internship is offered at the Centre for Musculoskeletal Research, Institute of Inflammation and Repair. You will be supervised by Emily Granger (NIHR Research Methods Fellow), Dr Jamie Sergeant (Lecturer in Medical Statistics) and Dr Mark Lunt (Reader in Medical Statistics).

 

The interns will gain practical experience of the work of a statistician working in clinical research in the academic and clinical sectors, whilst developing their understanding of statistical methods used in clinical research. The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team, along with being well organised and having knowledge of statistical software such as Stata or R.

(ii)               Your CV including details and marks, where available, of the undergraduate course modules that you will have completed by the end of the 2015-16 academic year.

(iii)             The name and email address of two academic referees from your university.
