Job Purpose
We are looking for a talented statistician to work on statistical interpretation of forensic evidence. The role includes research on new methods of forensic evaluation and investigation, development of prototypes in R and the provision of statistical training internally at LGC. The recruited statistician will be also enrolled in a training program for reporting cases and giving evidence in court.
Key Accountabilities
Working under the direct supervision of the LMS Forensics Head of Statistics
· Statistical software development
· Validation of developed methods
· Gain accreditation for methods
· Aid Court Room Expert Witnesses in the application of statistical methods
· Represent the company and justify statistical approach adopted through court attendance and witness testimony when required
· Support patent filing
· Liaise with other thought leaders, e.g., LMS Science Lead Group, the wider LGC community, ENFSI. To ensure update thinking and the enhancement of LGCs reputation.
Candidate specification:
Required knowledge, experience and technical skills
· B Sc on a mathematical subject
· M Sc in Statistics
Essential competencies and behaviour
· Working knowledge of the R statistical language
· Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance may be required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have three years continuous residency in the UK. Criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance.
This role may in addition require random alcohol/drug screening.
