Dear John,

Do you remember the column I started in RSS News and Notes called Forsooth! ?

Do you remember why I gave it that name?

Simon Jenkins , editor of The Times, was tickled pink by it .
He often used items from it.

Cheers
               Tony

Dear All

I have been volunteered to try and develop the proposal that RadStats should offer an annual "'Bad Stats' Award".

What do you think?

So far the aims and characteristics of the award have not been defined, but I see them as including the following:

1. To highlight the importance of statistics in public discourse
2. To stress the importance of doing statistics 'widely and well'
3. To raise the profile of RadStats (maybe along with the RSS?)
4. To organise a fun, photographable ceremony at which BadStats awards will be presented to the winners. (As with the IgNoble Prize, this may be in absentia, but we can work around that.)

As you will realise, the intentions of this email are perfectly serious. However, please feel free to be humourous AND serious in your reply. In particular, what should the award be? (If not an 'Oscar', maybe a 'Claus'? Or even a 'Harold' in honour of Harold Wilson).

I welcome your advice on how and whether to proceed.
