Dear Sharon, Adrian et al.,

Great, thanks for the advice and the paper. I'm just starting looking into this and thinking about updating our web resources so will keep you posted on what I find. It looks like the paper has a positive focus on learning strategies, which will be useful. l I will see what the policy says and chat to the Disability Team. I know we are adjusting our approach to provide students with disabilities with a more flexible approach to gaining extensions for assessed work when necessary.

Regards,

Stephen

Hi Stephen, and group,

I also had a related query during the week from one of our advisors, where a student argued that there should have been allowance for his dyslexia when deciding the penalty for plagiarism.

Is anybody aware of policies that would take dyslexia (or other disabilities) into account when deciding a penalty?

Subject: Disabilities leading to problems with plagiarism

Dear colleagues,

I was wondering whether anyone knows of any articles in reference to disabilities affecting students ability to reference/quote/paraphrase effectively. Had a few issues this year in relation to:
  • Dyslexia
  • Autism
  • Visual Impairments
I would like to learn more to provide more support and awareness on this issue.

Regards,

Stephen
