Hi all
Another lurker here – like Simon I am a Research Manager with an interest in metrics amongst other things and I signed up to the list to see what I could learn
from everyone else about bibliometrics (I know the basics but I know there is so much more to learn).
I’m also a member of the Snowball Metrics steering committee as the University of Leeds is one of the Snowball project partners and right now I am sitting on
a train on my way to a Steering group meeting – so of course I couldn’t resist responding to Simons question! The Snowball Metrics Exchange is currently undergoing User Acceptance Testing so it is getting closer. I should know more about the planned launch
after today’s meeting so if the group is interested I’d be very happy to keep you informed.

Also a recent lurker…
Introduced to the list by Lizzie in her guise as ARMA Metrics Special Interest Group Champion.
I’m a Research Manager and Administrator rather than Librarian… although some aspects of my role appear to be little blurred these
days – particularly with Open Access, Metrics, Benchmarking etc.
I’ve dabbled a little bit in metrics and (with my ARMA hat on) was one of authors of
The Metric Tide report than some may have seen/heard about/even read… ;-)
My one question… hmm… why doesn’t everyone use Snowball Metrics? Or to put it another way, why don’t we (still) yet have a snowball
metrics exchange…?

Webometrics researcher (and author of 'Web Metrics for Library and Information Professionals'), with an interest in bibliometrics more generally. Particularly interested at the moment in

We met for the first time last week and have lots of interesting and exciting plans for the group. Some of the feedback we had from the Lis-Bibliometrics survey last year related to members
feeling uncertain about posting to the list because they were unsure who was ‘lurking’ and feared feeling foolish. In attempt to overcome this,
we would like to invite all Lis-Bibliometrics members to introduce themselves and ask about one thing you always wanted to know about bibliometrics but were afraid to ask! Having met many of you at bibliometrics events over the past few years,
I can reassure you that we’re a friendly bunch and are all feeling our way with this.
To give you a taster of some of the things we have planned:

A Lis-bibliometrics blog with contributions from the community

A related resources page
·
An event (hopefully in June) around the theme of what it means to be a bibliometrician.
If you have any thoughts on these, or other suggestions, please let us know.
And finally, if you are a tweeter and ever tweet about bibliometric matters, why not use the hashtag #LisBibliometrics so we can develop a Twitter community too?
