Dear Colleagues, The 88th Italian Geological Society (SGI) meeting will take place in Naples this year (7 - 9 September, 2016) We would like to bring to your attention the following session: P7 - Post-orogenic extension in circum-Mediterranean belts: geomorphic signature, fault systems architecture and tectono-sedimentary evolution of syn-tectonic basins. conveners Francesco Brozzetti (Università di Chieti-Pescara G. D'Annunzio) Luigi Ferranti (Università di Napoli Federico II) Francesco Mirabella (Università di Perugia) Gerardo Pappone (Università di Napoli Parthenope) Keynote speakers: Giuseppina Lavecchia (Università di Chieti-Pescara G. D’Annunzio) Marcello Schiattarella (Università della Basilicata) Orogenic belts ringing the Mediterranean Sea display at various degrees extensional features that follow the main stages of mountain building in both Alpine and Apennines-type orogens. The investigation of the tectono-sedimentary evolution of extensional basins, their geomorphological signature and basins-bounding faults kinematic evolution hence provides a bridge to link the presently active structures and the long-term deformation and requires the integration of various disciplines of the Earth Sciences. We welcome contributions on the active role of post-orogenic extension based on geological, geomorphological, geodetic and seismological studies.
