Hi Tony

Yes thanks for this and I did try this.

The objection was raised that just because we as a College are unable to provide them with their need we cannot further discriminate against them…..

Shirley

Hi Shirley

I faced this issue and used the history of need and normal way of working regulations to get around it.

I put in place the need for a learner to provide evidence of their history of need in school (for all arrangements) and then that this would be their normal way of working (which is impossible as pretty much no student has this normally). This naturally resulted in just the severe need learners requiring a separate room and the lesser cases were accepted as only needing a smaller room environment.

Hi

Thanks everyone.  My difficulty is that our ALS just keep saying the same thing….they have been assessed and entitled to a separate room… I have asked the question who is a ‘MUST’ be in a separate room and who would be ok in one of our other smaller rooms…, but I ust keep getting the same rhetoric ….they have been assessed as needing a separate room……

Unless we build more rooms, they will have to share!

Thanks for the replies ….looks like I’m not the only one with this headache!

Hello Shirley,

We are in the same boat, and frequently put smaller groups of not quite so anxious students in a classroom of around 6-10 students.

Our Learning Support dept deal with around 800 student per year, and will “classify” them as “must be alone”/”can cope in smaller room” etc

We use this info when rooming them.

Regards

Subject: REQUESTS FOR SEPARATE ROOMS

Hi Everyone

Just a quick question.

How many separate rooms have you been asked for, for EAA in your GCSE’s?  We have been asked for about 33 separate rooms for each of our GCSE English (1 exam) and our (Calc and Non Calc) maths (2 exams).

We have around 700 candidates and our biggest room seats 60 candidates, all the others will be in rooms of about 25 or less – so far around 70ish rooms will be needed…without the 33 separate ones!  Getting desperate…we don’t have enough rooms!

Does anyone put learners who have been assessed as being entitled to a sep room in a smaller room with others???

If you could let me know what you do at your centres it would be appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

Shirley
