We have students who require music in the background whilst taking their exam.  We have a variety of disks with different genres, we don’t allow the student to provide the music, our IT department kindly come up with a selection based on their preference one of which includes heavy rock!

Hi

I had this exact thing last year.   She had to have music/background noise.   I ended up putting her in a single room and she provided a CD which was played out loud quietly during her exam.   We practiced in the mocks but she failed to give in a CD so we had to get one done quick.  The technician only put 5 songs on it so by the time it had been played continuously during a 2 week mock period, she decided to bring in her own CD as she was fed up with the same repetition of songs.  I said it had to be classical as it was there for a medical reason, not for pleasure.  (Feeling a bit mean at the time)   Worked absolutely fine – except for the Art exam when the board said no.  We ended up having a very small water feature in the room instead which appeared to work as well.  I think she had rather more loo breaks than would be expected, but with running water on continuously, that was probably the reason why.  No idea why one of our teachers had a water feature in their maths exam but there we go

Regards

Anna

Hi,

I am after some advice.  We have just had an access report for a learner that says she requires a separate room and earphones with music playing.  I know that earphones are not allowed, but was wondering if we can play some background music if she was in a room on her own?

Kind Regards
