Thanks

GCSEs are re-sits only in November 2016
From September 2012, all GCSEs have moved from modular to linear<http://www.aqa.org.uk/about-us/supporting-education/policy/gcse-and-a-level-changes/modular-to-linear> assessment. This means that students are assessed on everything at the end of the course.
Because of this, GCSE exams in November 2016 are for re-sits only. These are the 'November entry rules' set by JCQ that apply to everyone.
If a student's previous attempt was with a different awarding body, we might need to ask you for evidence of the result.
GCSE English and GCSE English Language
Students can re-sit the exams if they received a result from a previous attempt at a GCSE English qualification, current or legacy, from any JCQ awarding body.
GCSE mathematics (including the Linked Pair)
Students can re-sit the exams if they received a result from a previous attempt at a GCSE Mathematics qualification (including one of the Linked Pair: GCSE Methods in Mathematics or GCSE Applications of Mathematics), current or legacy, from any JCQ awarding body.

Hi Chris,

It is my understanding that with GCSE's it is the mark in the series they took the exam which counts and all other exams/ marks taken in previous series are 'lost'.

So the student could do worse in the resit then their original sitting, unlike A Level resits in the legacy specifications where the highest mark always took precedent.

I am happy to be proven wrong though.

Thanks.

Help - I must be getting old - does the highest GCSE mark/grade always count after a resit as with A-Level?
