Lynn, Many years ago I phone AQA to ask about this and was told that it was extra time with Jam on! The orange book says that the SENCO should give some indication to the length of a rest break. I always encourage some activity and conversation (with the invigilator) during a rest break to ensure it is not extra thinking time.
