The School of Humanities at the Royal College of Art seeks applicants for a fixed-term position as Tutor on the V&A/RCA MA in History of Design. 

The V&A/RCA History of Design offers the opportunity to study design and material culture in all its aspects, from the early fifteenth century to the present day, across global geographies. The two-year, full-time MA programme and MPhil and PhD research degrees are jointly offered by two world-leading centres for scholarship and creativity: the RCA and the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), both based in London.

The position will be three days per week for up to 12 months, on a fixed term maternity cover contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering seminars, tutorials, workshops and/or lectures to first year MA students. The post holder will supervise the dissertations of second year MA students through tutorials, written feedback and attendance at presentations. 

Applicants should be able to demonstrate:
- Experience of teaching the history of design and material culture or relevant related area e.g. media history, material culture or the history of technology at a postgraduate level 
- Modern and contemporary period expertise (19-21st centuries) 
- Proven track record of research in a relevant area such as: history of graphic design, printing and communication; history of industrial and product design; history of science and technology, through material culture; media history; history of product/industrial design; history of systems/service design; history of architecture and urbanism; social history through material culture; history of design education, management and policy. 

The successful candidate will be expected to be research active and maintain a high-level research profile. The PhD is preferred but not essential. Experience with interdisciplinary and/or experimental methods for history through design and material culture is also desirable.
