The University of Dundee is delighted to announce a prestigious ESRC collaborative PhD studentship, in partnership with Police Scotland, entitled: ‘Stop and Search in Scotland: An analysis of police practice and culture in a time of change’.

Stop and search in Scotland has recently come under intense critical review. Police Scotland has begun a detailed programme of consultation, policy reform and retraining, which started in late 2014. This project will assess the current cultural climate in relation to stop and search, how the process of implementing the new Code of Practice is received by officers and the extent to which the culture has changed. Findings will illuminate wider questions of organisational and cultural change in contemporary policing, a topic of intense academic debate in many nations since the 1980s.

The supervisors are Dr Megan O’Neill (University of Dundee), and Dr Anna Souhami (University of Edinburgh), both leading researchers in policing studies.

This studentship is being offered as a +3 (PhD only) format, fully funded for three years, and is open to UK residents. Please see the following link for more information:
