The Hellenistic Peloponnese: New Perspectives

School of Archaeology and Ancient History

University of Leicester

Registration to the International Ph.D. and Early Career Researchers conference “The Hellenistic Peloponnese: New Perspectives” is now open. The conference has been organized under the aegis of the School of Archaeology and Ancient History of the University of Leicester and will be held on May 6th, 2016.

Aims of the Conference and Titles of Papers

The Hellenistic Peloponnese, with its large number of states and regions, has occupied a significant place in historical and archaeological research: however, recent archaeological fieldwork and the use of new analyses and comparative approaches have broadened our views on this multi-faceted cultural and historical reality. The introduction of methodological approaches and paradigms from the realms of Social Sciences, International Relations, Law Studies and Psychology have offered new interpretative tools which enable us to find new answers to important historical issues such as the nature of the interactions between states situated inside and outside the Peloponnese and the perceptions of the past throughout the Hellenistic period.

Dr. Daniel Stewart, University of Leicester (Inventing the Hellenistic Peloponnese) and Professor Andrew Meadows, University of Oxford (Polybius and the Peloponnese: New Perspectives and Old) will present the keynote lectures. The conference’s web page [The Hellenistic Peloponnese: New Perspectives] has been updated with the abstracts of the selected papers. For your information, a list of speakers and papers is provided below:

The conference will run from 08:30am (Registration) to 18:00pm and it will be followed by a reception on campus. There will be an optional dinner after the reception at a local restaurant, for which there will be a small additional cost. The registration fee for the conference, which includes tea, coffee and lunch, is £15. We would invite you to register as soon as possible.

Registration can be reached via the University’s shop: [http://shop.le.ac.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=1&deptid=7&catid=711&prodvarid=595].
