Hi Mohamed,

It is an exciting new product which we hope will make significant improvements within part of the ED sample pathway. We will be starting to look at these new tubes here at Derby in the next couple of weeks in conjunction with the Emergency Department and BD, and will be providing information via a variety of sources in due course.

Part of that process is working with ED to improve their sample collection and distibution systems so that they too can reduce the overall needle to authorisation time. We consistently manage to turnaround over 95% of results within an hour using predominantly BD SST II tubes, but the time between collection and delivery can be apparently very long. Partly due to the systems to log when a sample has been taken and partly a procedural problem.

Subject: BD Barricor Tubes

Dear Colleagues:
I will be grateful for information from anyone  who may have evaluated the new BD barricor tubes and tested the reduction in TAT and its impact on ER samples?

The company claim a substantial reduction in centrifugation time with better sample quality

Thanks
Mohamed
