Hi I just wanted to know if any labs in the UK are currently using thrombin containing vacutainers to collect serum samples from the A&E department? We currently use gel-separated vacutainers to collect serum samples and not infrequently we find samples from A&E that have not completed clotting before they are centrifuged. This results in them being placed on a roller for 5 minutes and then being respun which delays the time till the result is available. Thrombin containing tubes look like a potential solution to reducing the proportion of samples that are centrifuged before they have completed clotting. Is anybody currently using them and if so what is your experience?
