Hi

I just wanted to know if any labs in the UK are currently using thrombin
containing vacutainers to collect serum samples from the A&E department?

We currently use gel-separated vacutainers to collect serum samples and not
infrequently we find samples from A&E that have not completed clotting
before they are centrifuged. This results in them being placed on a roller
for 5 minutes and then being respun which delays the time till the result
is available.

Thrombin containing tubes look like a potential solution to reducing the
proportion of samples that are centrifuged before they have completed
clotting.

Is anybody currently using them and if so what is your experience?

Thanks

Gavin Murdock
