Afternoon all,

I've been asked by my colleague at our National Museum of Flight site to let people know that we are looking for a new science show to run there later this year. If anyone has any queries about it please get in touch with Adam directly, as he knows far more about the project than I.

Best wishes,
Ali Floyd
Science Engagement Officer, National Museum of Scotland

Background

The National Museum of Flight (NMoF), in East Lothian near Edinburgh, has two key themes; the history of aviation and the science and technology of aviation. The Edinburgh International Science Festival has formed a key part of the museum’s programming for a number of years. The National Museum of Flight has a number of science shows about how things fly but is now looking for a new approach. We are looking for an individual freelancer, group of freelancers or company to develop, write, and deliver the show, as well as to train existing staff to deliver it in future.

The Show

•	The show should be interactive, engaging and should have a number of demonstrations showing genuine principals.
•	The audience is the general public but the specific target audience is families with children aged 5-12.
•	The show will happen at specific times of day (i.e. will not be drop in) and the audience may or may not be sitting. Duration on this basis will be 10-15 minutes.
•	The space that the show will be performed in is a normal museum exhibition space and so is not equipped with specialist lighting, raised staged etc.
•	The main subject of the show will be the science behind the flight of aeroplanes.
•	There will be two versions of the show, one to be delivered by a costumed character (the fully theatrical version) and one to be delivered by any presenter (the simple science show).
•	The character will be based on John Damian https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Damian or another person of that period who witnessed his attempts at flying. Damian blamed his own failure to fly on using chicken feathers rather than eagle feathers in his wings.

Elements to be delivered:

1)	Production of the script a fully theatrical science show.
2)	Production of the script a simple science show.
3)	All props required for the science show with a list of the necessary information to source replacements.
4)	One size fits most costumes, 1 male, and 1 female for the main character for fully theatrical show.
5)	Delivery of the show 3 times a day, times by mutual agreement, Friday 25th March 2016 – Sunday 10th April 2016.
6)	Half days training for up to 12 staff for a fully theatrical science show. This can take place after Sunday 10th April 2016.
7)	Half days training for up to 12 staff for a simple science show. This can take place after Sunday 10th April 2016.

The timeframe for this work is very tight but the expectation is that there will be a script for review by 12:00 on Wednesday 2nd March 2016 and a first performance (for the client only) by Wednesday 16th March 2016.

Please provide a price for each element separately to include all travel and expenses.
