Hello all,

Our next TalkScience@BL event titled “Health Data: Better Care or Privacy Nightmare?” will be held on Tuesday 15 March 2016 at the British Library, London.

TalkScience is a public panel discussion with an emphasis on audience involvement.  Our chair for the evening is Sharmila Nebhrajani OBE.  Panellists include Professor Liam Smeeth (LSHTM), Peter Knight (Department of Health) and Sam Smith (MedConfidential).  Topics up for discussion include:

·         How the NHS, government and researchers will efficiently and practically use the vast quantities of health data generated by initiatives such as care.data and the 100,000 Genomes Project

·         The ethical considerations of patient data acquisition and use such as data security, privacy and consent

·         How to effectively and accurately communicate government intentions regarding data use and sharing to the public

The event will start at 18:30 (doors at 18:00), finish at around 20:30 and light refreshments will be provided.  The event is open to all and further details and booking information can be found on our What’s On page.

Best wishes,

Eleanor Sherwood
