medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture

 

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might have been described as a 'book of meditations' in the mid fifteenth century?

 

In making his will in 1468, Henry Bennett of Lincoln left a bequest of 'my boke of meditacions that was Alnewykes, Busshop of Lincoln' ['Lincolnshire Wills Proved in the Prerogative Court of Canterbury, 1471-90', ed. CW Foster, Associated Architectural Societies' Reports and Papers, 41 (1932/3), 179-218 (p 179)]

 

Alnwick is known to have owned or borrowed books of Canon and Civil Law, Gregory the Great's, Moralia, Origen on the Pentateuch, etc, Roger de Waltham's Compendium Morale and liturgical books.

 

I would be very grateful for any suggestions as to what these 'meditacions' might have been.
