Call for Special Sessions for the 23rd Multimedia Modelling Conference (MMM2017), Jan 4-6, 2017, Reykjavik Iceland

The 23rd MultiMedia Modeling conference, MMM 2017, will be held in the unique location of Reykjavik, Iceland (http://mmm2017.ru.is/). As the first multimedia conference ever to be held in Iceland, MMM 2017 represents a unique opportunity to visit this exciting location.

At this time we invite you to propose special sessions for MMM 2017. Special sessions are mini-venues, each focusing on one state-of-the-art research direction within the multimedia field. Special session papers, which can be invited or submitted, will supplement the regular research papers and be included in the proceedings of MMM 2017. While a special session may simply present a group of related papers in the regular format, it is preferred to organise the session in a panel format, where authors have reduced time to present their work, followed by a Q&A session with the audience.

Special session proposals must be submitted by email to the general chairs Björn Þór Jónsson and Cathal Gurrin using subject “MMM2017 Special Session Proposal” by 01/04/16. Proposals will be evaluated based on the relevance to MMM, qualification(s) of the organiser(s) and the quality and community interest of the topic/proposed potential papers. Details of proposals are described below.

On behalf of the MMM 2017 organization,

Björn Þór Jónsson
Cathal Gurrin
MMM 2017 general chairs

--------------------

Special Session Proposal Requirements:

Usually, each special session should be comprised of four to five papers. In addition to invited papers, if any, the conference will also welcome submissions to special sessions. In order to ensure high quality of the conference papers, all papers submitted to special sessions will be peer-reviewed through a strict review process, including invited papers. If a special session has many high-quality submissions, some of the submissions may potentially be moved to some regular sessions.

The review process will be coordinated with the regular technical program review process, as coordinated by the PC chairs. The organizers of each special session must provide 1-2 reviews per submitted/invited paper, while the regular program committee will provide two reviews. Final decision on acceptance/rejection will be made in collaboration between the special session chairs and the MMM 2017 PC chairs.

Please include the following information in your proposal:
* Title of the proposed special session.
* Name, affiliation, brief biography and contact information for each of the organisers.
* A session abstract including significance justification and a brief overview of the state-of-the-art of the proposed special session topic.
* List of invited papers, if applicable, including for each paper: tentative title, author list, and preferably a short abstract.
* Proposal for arrangement of the reviews from session organizers (e.g., list of members of mini-PC for the special session).
* Description of the session format (e.g., panel format vs. technical talks).
