As well as conservation and archaeology on a lead smelting site, it also interpreted the industrial landscape - 40 miles of transport routes followed by the 'carriers' and their ponies of the project title - stretching between the high hills of the North Pennines where the lead mines were, to the urban refinery and staithes on the banks of the River Tyne.
The Project section has redacted versions of the activity plan and evaluation report which the volunteers specifically put on line to help future project development groups benefit from their experiences.
