Dear All,
In below email, our colleague Rebecca Collins, Secretary of the RGS-IBG Geographies of Children, Youth & Families Research Group, explains the importance of the number of official members (i.e. registered RGS-IBG Fellows or Postgraduate Fellows) to the vitality of RGS-IBG Research Groups - viz. RGS-IBG Research Group funding depends on the number of official Research Group members.
Following on below call, members of this list who are already registered RGS-IBG Fellows or Postgraduate Fellows are kindly asked to contact the RHED office at [log in to unmask] should they wish to become an official SSQRG member.
Also, please double-check with RHED if you are uncertain about whether you had ticked the SSQRG membership box when you applied for RGS-IBG Fellowship in the past. Many thanks.
SSQRG moreover encourages all those who are currently not official (i.e. paid) members/Fellows, including any SSQRG Ordinary Committee members, to consider applying for or renewing RGS-IBG membership at http://www.rgs.org/JoinUs/Join+us.htm.
Thank you for your support.
Best,
Martin Zebracki
Secretary, SSQRG

Subject: GCYFRG/RGS membership
Dear all,
As many of you will know, the Geographies of Children, Youth & Families Research Group (GCYFRG) is one of 27 Royal Geographical Society (RGS) research groups. The RGS contributes to the funding of all its research groups, drawing on the annual subscription fees of its members to do so. As such, GCYFRG receives an annual – very modest – subvention payment which is used to support our activities, including workshops, conferences, postgraduate bursaries and undergraduate dissertation prizes. The size of our subvention payment is calculated on the basis of how many ‘official’ members we have.
‘Official’ members are individuals who are RGS Fellows or Postgraduate Fellows, who have indicated to the RGS on their membership form (or subsequently via email to [log in to unmask]) that they wish to be a member of GCYFRG. There is no cost to do this, beyond the standard annual membership fee for RGS Fellowship. (Details of how to join and costs can be found here: http://www.rgs.org/JoinUs/Join+us.htm)
Since subventions for research groups are calculated at the end of November, this is really just a gentle nudge to members of this list who are already RGS members to please let the RHED office know that you wish to become a member of GCYFRG. (If you have done this once in the past there is no need to do so again.) Every additional RGS member who joins GCYFRG brings us extra funding which we then spend on events from which we hope everyone on this list can benefit. For list members who are not, at present, RGS members but are thinking of joining, please tick the box next to GCYFRG when asked which research group(s) you would like to affiliate with, should you decide to go ahead.
Finally, just by way of reminder and clarification, there is no fee to join this email list.
If any list members have any questions about membership of GCYFRG and/or the Royal Geographical Society, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Best wishes,
Dr Rebecca Collins
