This course is available from UKSG but I have not (yet?) attended it. It doesn't seem to cover the soft skills per se but I'm sure it must touch on them? http://www.uksg.org/event/PPM130614

Good point. I think that leads nicely into our next topic: project management training. For those out there who have had formal training do the courses cover soft skills too?

Many of the skills required by a PM are hard skills, like resourcing, budgeting, setting deadlines, etc.. But, these need to be accompanied by a wide range of soft skills, for example, understanding the culture of the project team, being available to meet with members of the team to discuss issues, motivating the team, being a positive agent for change, being aware of training needs of team members, getting buy-in from team members and other stakeholders, communicating ... Do cataloguers have these skills?

Hi Patrice and Anastasia,

It's great to have a contributor from overseas! We have looked into adopting RFID but to be honest the sheer scale of the task, together with considerable architectural obstacles have put us off.

As for adding subject headings to thousands of journals, that sounds like another epic project.

I think these projects illustrate that dogged determination, perserverance and optimism are also necessary attributes of a project manager.
