This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered clinical trials units in the country. The Cancer Research UK Clinical Trials Unit (CRCTU)
is based in the School of Cancer Sciences, University of Birmingham. The Unit has an extensive portfolio of phase I, II and III clinical trials in adults and children covering a wide range of cancer disease sites. The Unit employs a multidisciplinary team
of over 135 staff including statisticians, systematic reviewers, trial management staff,
research nurses, monitors, programmers, administrators and IT staff.
The CRCTU receives significant core funding from Cancer Research UK and receives further funding from other charities, research councils and pharmaceutical companies.
The CRCTU has an exciting position available for a Senior Biostatistician (Grade 8) to join its expanding statistical team of over 15 statisticians. It is likely that the post holder will specialise in specific
cancer types within the trials portfolio. Biostatisticians play a central role in the Unit, actively liaising with clinical investigators, contributing to the design and conduct of clinical trials, being responsible for interim and final analysis of clinical
trial data and having a key role in the presentation and publication of results. As academic members of the University, Biostatisticians contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Applicants must possess an MSc or PhD in Statistics or a relevant subject. Applicants must possess significant previous experience of working as an applied medical statistician. The successful candidate will be expected to take on
a lead statistical role in projects within a short time of appointment.
CRCTU is actively involved in researching statistical methodology related to clinical trials and associated translational research. Opportunities exist for members of the team to pursue their own research
interests and carry out postgraduate qualifications.
Applications from individuals looking for part time working patterns or those returning to the workplace after a break will be considered.
The successful candidate will be working in the Robert Aitken building which has been refurbished by Advantage West Midlands (AWM) through Birmingham Science City: Translational Medicine Clinical Research
Infrastructure and Trials Platform.
