Computational Scientist for Biomolecular Modelling and Simulation
STFC Daresbury Laboratory, Daresbury, Cheshire, UK
Deadline 12th January 2016

We have an opportunity for a Computational Scientist with an interest in data centric and high performance computing to work within the Computational Biology Group of STFC's Scientific Computing Department, contributing to the Life Sciences programme of the Hartree Centre during an exciting phase of growth. STFC's Hartree Centre provides an outcome-based collaborative R&D service that enables UK industry and academia to develop better products, services and processes. The latest phase of the Hartree Centre is focused on application of data-centric and cognitive computing technologies, in collaboration with researchers from IBM.

You will work on a variety of life sciences research projects in the general area of biomolecular modelling and simulation, covering both scientific applications and software development. High throughput simulations will be coupled to machine learning for design of further computational and experimental studies. There is also a long-term aim to develop multi-scale models of biological systems. The postholder will collaborate with the Computational Chemistry group to develop multi-scale methodologies appropriate to molecular simulations, providing the expertise on biological applications.

About You
You will be a computational scientist with experience of high end computing, and a background in biomolecular simulation or computational chemistry. You will have developed scientific software, utilising a range of compiled and scripting languages, and participated in projects across organisations with many different partners. You will demonstrate knowledge of software engineering, the use of clusters or supercomputers, and data management. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to collaborate effectively with people from diverse scientific backgrounds.

Benefits
Successful applicants will be appointed at either Band E (£36,033 - £38,426) or Band F (£44,670 - £48,904). Band F appointment will only be considered for outstanding candidates with a track record of successful research in a highly relevant subject. An exceptional index linked pension scheme, 30 days leave allowance and flexi-time are offered.
