Henry Nicholls, author of The Galapagos. A Natural History, will spend an afternoon at UCL department of Science and Technology Studies, on 27 January 2016, during which he will meet with our students.

Nicholls will conclude his visit with a public talk on the topic of his last book The Galapagos: A Natural History (London: Profile Books, 2014). This book, "an enchanting and enlightening account of the most scientifically significant islands in the world", was chosen as the department’s OneBook for the academic year 2015-2016.

The lecture will take place at 18.00 in the Sir Ambrose Fleming Lecture Theatre - Roberts Building G06. Places are limited, you can book a (free) ticket here:

Henry Nicholls is a journalist, author and broadcaster, specialising in evolutionary biology, conservation and history of science. His first book Lonesome George: The Life and Loves of a Conservation Icon was about the Galapagos Archipelago and global conservation.
He is also the author of The Way of the Panda: The Curious History of China's Political Animal, which charts the intertwined fortunes of giant pandas and China over the last 140 years. His third book, released in early 2014, is The Galapagos: A Natural History.

OneBook programme at UCL STS
Each year, the Department asks all staff and students to read one book in common during the summer, then arrive for the new session ready to discuss both its substance and its broader value. The goals of our 'OneBook' programme are:
1. increase intellectual integration across disparate courses
2. increase common ground for students in different year groups
3. encourage informal learning
