  Postdoctoral position on the mechanistic role of brain oscillations
  (1,0 fte)

*Donders Institute, Centre for Cognitive Neuroimaging*
*Maximum salary: € 4,654 gross/month*
*Vacancy number: 30.01.16*
*Application deadline: 15 February 2016*

    Responsibilities

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral candidate to work on
a project on the mechanistic role of brain oscillations. This is a
project funded by the James S. McDonnell Foundation. It is part of a
collaborative consortium involving the University of Oxford, Princeton
University, the University of Berkeley and Columbia University.
The overall aim of the project is to investigate how ongoing brain
oscillations coordinate neuronal firing in order to support cognitive
processing.

You will be part of a young and vibrant research team that is
investigating this question using MEG, ECoG and analysis of existing
animal data. Specifically, you will work on the question on whether the
phase of neuronal oscillations coordinate neuronal processing within and
between brain areas.

    Work environment

You will be based at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and
Behaviour, a research centre of Radboud University. However active
exchanges involving longer stays at the partner universities are
expected. The mission of the Donders Institute is to conduct
cutting-edge fundamental research in cognitive neuroscience. The
research themes cover central cognitive functions, such as perception,
action, control, decision-making, attention, memory, language, learning
and plasticity. The internationally renowned centre currently hosts more
than 100 PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers from more than 25
countries, offering a stimulating and multidisciplinary research
environment. The centre is equipped with four MRI scanners (7T, 3x 3T),
a 275-channel MEG system, an EEG-TMS laboratory, several (MR-compatible)
EEG systems, and high-performance computational facilities. English is
the lingua franca at the centre.

Radboud University is one of the leading academic communities in the
Netherlands. Situated in the oldest city of the Netherlands, it has nine
faculties and enrolls over 17,500 students in 107 study programmes. The
successful candidate will join the Neuronal Oscillations research group.

    What we expect from you

A PhD degree or equivalent in a field related to cognitive neuroscience
(experimental psychology, cognitive science, electrophysiology,
artificial intelligence). However, excellent candidates from other
backgrounds will also be considered. Experience with experimental work
and quantitative data analysis. Experience with programming (e.g.
MATLAB). Good command of written and spoken English. Excellent social
skills and team spirit.

    What we have to offer

  * employment: 1,0 fte;
  * a maximum gross monthly salary of € 4,654 based on a 38-hour working
    week (salary scale 11);
  * in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3%
    end-of-year bonus;
  * successful candidates from abroad are eligible to apply for the
    attractive Dutch tax incentive scheme for foreign employees;
  * duration of the contract: 3-5 years;
  * you will be classified as a Postdoctoral Researcher (Onderzoeker 3)
    in the Dutch university job-ranking system (UFO).
