medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I am embarrassed to be responding to this so late. I somehow missed the original post. If this has not been answer to your satisfaction, the place to look is:

Little, Lester K. "Saint Louis' Involvement with the Friars." Church History 33,  (1964): 125-147.

If this is style a live question I can look in a few other sources.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if any work written within a few decades of Thomas Aquinas's lifetime mentions the story about him at the banquet table of Louis IX? I know the story is mentioned (without a written source, one of those "dicitur" situations) in a 17th-century work, but I agree with Jacques LeGoff in his big book on Louis IX that this isn't sufficient evidence to accept its authenticity.
