Hi all,

We also used to use Amazon but found it very time intensive - someone has to upload each item and look at what sort of price it's going for. We found that the majority of the stuff we were getting rid of was worth pennies, and so it wasn't worth staff time. Also, you have to have a quick turn round, so someone has to be aware of orders coming in and process them, all of which depends on your staffing situation.

Like Michael, we now use Betterworld, which is a much smoother operation given we're disposing of largely valueless stock.

Hi Rachael and Dawn
We had an experience where a library book that was long overdue turned up on Amazon, the student concerned having dropped out and then sold the book, I imagine it was for such reasons that amazon has tightened security. We use a company called betterworld books at http://www.betterworldbooks.com/ for our outdated stock which give us a percentage of the value of items they sell and also donate a small percentage to a charity of our choosing.

Best wishes

Hi Rachel

We have in the past done this but Amazon have tightened their security now and you seem to need to go through hoops and have to provide passport info etc. So will be interested to hear if others have found this also.

Kind regards
Dawn

Subject: Selling through Amazon

Dear all

We are looking into the possibility of using Amazon as an outlet for selling both withdrawn stock (mainly audio CD and cassettes) and a few of our own publications. We’d be interested to find out if other authorities do this and what benefits/pit falls you have come across.

Many thanks for your thoughts

Kind regards

Rachel
