Good morning GEM members,

Here’s something to have a ponder about over the weekend: a call for submissions for a new online zine focused on feminism in relation to the arts and arts education. Details below.
All the best,
Alison and the YES∙arts team

Artists, writers and educators are invited to submit papers and pieces for the very special first issue of our e-zine Griselda. Published quarterly and centred on a particular theme, the tone of the magazine is to be academic yet accessible. This issue's theme: Feminism.
The museum and gallery archetype is arguably a gendered space where women’s social history and material culture is under-represented and instead stereotypical notions of masculinity and femininity perpetuate. Reclaiming and rewriting history are key issues within cultural politics for museums and galleries and temporary exhibitions where female directorships and feminist theorists are able to re-interpret collections enabling invisible narratives to become visible.
Griselda invites submissions from those using feminist methodologies to understand museum, gallery and all arts related topics. We aim to explore questions such as to what extent have gender and representation issues resulted in a shifting of focus in the arts? Why are there so many female art students but relatively few celebrated women artists? Have you experienced gender bias in the arts?
Submissions are welcomed in the form of all visual and written arts and academic writing. If you are interested in contributing to this issue, please send your submission, a short bio and contact details to [log in to unmask] by 5pm on Sunday 13 March 2016. Articles should be of no more than 2000 words, images must be .jpg file format.

Griselda is published by YES∙arts (Young Educators’ Skillshare), a self-funded non-profit organisation based in South East London. We promote arts education by providing a platform for young people working within the arts to share skills with the community, gaining valuable professional experience.
