Dear all

Friday question.

We've previously discussed biometrics in schools and I'm pretty clear on what consent is needed from parents, what notice must be give to parents and children, and how children can (in theory) opt out etc.

I'm now looking at the extra data that can be collected on the card such as cashless catering payments for lunch, library books borrowed, gym accessed etc.

My understanding is that this sort of data (unlike attendance data held on the card for example) does NOT form part of the child's 'education record' under the Education Act and therefore parents have no automatic right of access by law to it and schools should not send it as reports to parents. Does anyone have any alternative view?

Thanks
Lynn
