Never underestimate the appeal of fantasy management.

Just in case seems to happen on a regular basis which is why people always hold/process/destroy information. :)

Hi Derek

I have no sympathy with either side!

I've spent a good portion of my working life signing in and out with times and so far as I know the info has never been used. For large portions of hat time I was the custodian for filing the bits of paper which no-one ever looked at again.

On the other hand why is the union getting in a twist about a harmless hobby which a huge number of employers and employees play every day?

Technically with a strict DP hat on, if they have no management purpose yet, you could well argue this is excessive processing. For H&S purposes hard to see how time is relevant. If a fire breaks out now what matters is whether I am in the building now, not when I arrived.

I suppose once in a blue moon it might help with a complaint "Teacher thumped me in first lesson" if teacher could show he didn't sign in until later, but we are probably getting in to the realm of fantasy management if that is the justification.
