In recognition of the increasingly diverse ways in which researchers disseminate their research, the Alternative Mode of Scholarship Competition Committee of the AAG's Urban Geography Specialty Group  solicits submissions of blogs, videos and websites by an undergraduate or graduate student or group of students. The winner/s of the award will receive $200 and will be recognized at the AAG meeting in San Francisco.

To clarify what we mean by “alternative modes of scholarship,” the committee will prioritize work that uses non-textual media to present urban research, though they can certainly be accompanied by text.  So, for example, works that present photographic, sonographic, or videographic methods/documentation, or an innovative web interface, would be more successful than a traditional essay published in the form of a blog post.

Submissions should be in the form of a URL address plus no more than 300 words explaining how the submission contributes to an understanding of urban geography.  These along with the applicant’s physical mailing address should be sent to Malini Ranganathan (American University) [log in to unmask] and Brian Rosa (Queens College, CUNY) [log in to unmask]  by midnight (PST) on February 15, 2016.  Decisions will be announced on March 1, 2016.
