Job Purpose

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious statistician to be involved in a world-leading research project and develop a strong career in medical statistics that will inform and improve healthcare.

Telomeres are ends of chromosomes and telomere length is a marker of biological ageing. In previous studies (see papers by Samani NJ and Codd V), we have shown a link between telomere length and risk of heart and other diseases. Building on this work we have been awarded a grant by the MRC/BHF to measure telomere lengths of all 500,000 participants in UK Biobank (http://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/). This world-leading project will enable robust identification of genetic and demographic, environmental and life-style factors that affect telomere length and establish the relationship between telomere length and cardiovascular and other age-related diseases.

You will be responsible for all aspects of statistical analysis of data for the project, and you will be joining a group that is internationally-recognised for its research in cardiovascular genetics and telomere science. You will work closely with other members of the research team, UK Biobank as well as national and international collaborators.

The appointment is available at either Grade 6 or 7. Appointment at grade 7 will require additional qualifications and experience and have additional accountabilities as described in the job particulars.

Informal enquiries are welcomed and should be made to Professor Nilesh J Samani on [log in to unmask].
