Hi

We're at the early stages of thinking about promoting good development practices for research software across the University of St Andrews and would like to try and find out a bit about what arrangements are in place elsewhere. In particular, we're looking at code repositories and related systems.

The Software Sustainability Institute provides good guidance to researchers on choosing a repository (http://software.ac.uk/resources/guides/choosing-repository-your-software-project), but it would be interesting to know what is being done at the institutional level. Does anyone have policies or guidance which refer specifically to the development of software for research and what constitutes good practice? Do you provide a code repository (Git, SVN, etc.) that researchers can use, either hosted at the institution or via a 3rd-party service? Do you provide any other related services e.g. issue tracking or continuous integration testing?

Any and all information gratefully received.

Thanks,

Paddy
