That’s exactly the sort of information that I had in mind.

These are excellent examples of people and what they did. Add a bit more on the nature of their fellowships and potential applicants will have a clearer idea of what goes on.

I’d have thought that STFC would want to boast about that sort of thing. Well worth an “alumni” section.

It seems that other organisations that run PEST schemes are equally coy on alumni. For example, I can find nothing on the RAE’s “Public engagement awards”. Lots of “how to apply” details, but no history.

The EPSRC is a little bit more informative about its past support:

Well Michael, when I used to manage the scheme (2008-9) my cohorts of Fellows included Chris Lintott and his Galaxy Zoo; Maggie Aderin-Pocock just to be generally brilliant; David Jenkin who worked on getting his department’s research at York linked up with a wide range of educational activities; and, Andrea Sella to eulogise about his materials research at Rutherford Lab.

Hope that helps

Twitter thingy duly retweeted to ABSW and others.

One thing that would help anyone interested in applying would be examples of past recipients.

All of the stuff I see on the website describes, at great length, the application process.

Am I missing a link there to case histories?

I ask here because the answer might benefit others interesting in applying for the scheme.

Does anyone here recommend any sites for both procuring and advertising services of freelancers.

I'm interested from both sides of that.

Hi everyone,

I'm a final year undergraduate at the University of Leeds, looking to secure a role in scicomm upon graduating in July 2016.

I received a rejection from the Wellcome Trust's graduate scheme today which was a huge surprise, as I have lots of relevant experience so not sure what went wrong.

If anybody could suggest organisations or places where graduate roles may be offered in the area, or even an example of their progression, I'd be very grateful.
I've got an application for Adelphi in Manchester to write, and another role at Imperial College London as a STEM Co-ordinator which I'm looking to apply for as well.

Have a great Christmas everyone!

Best wishes,

Merry Christmas!

We’d like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and to thank you for supporting Shrinking Space in 2015.

We’ve had a wonderful year; taking the Solar System across the UK, creating a mobile app, meeting some brilliant institutions, hearing so many fantastic science stories and laying the foundations for a huge 2016.

Here are a few of our highlights and a taster of what next year will bring!

Mind's Eye tour came to a close at Manchester Science Festival

2015 was largely spent touring Mind's Eye, the audio tour of all the active missions in our solar system to: SmashFest in London, ThinkTank in Birmingham, The British Science Festival in Bradford, At-Bristol in Bristol and The Manchester Science Festival at Manchester Central Library!

We had a really interesting end to the tour in Manchester collaborating with mobile and beacon technology experts Dot3 Digital to build a prototype Shrinking Space app and experiment with beacon technology. We'll be writing about our experience soon, so keep an eye out on our blog. Thanks to the wonderful Archives + team for letting us run wild in the library!

My City on Mars

Inspired by our conversations with the public during the Mind's Eye tour we have started development of a new project entitled, My City on Mars - an interactive mobile app and offline experience, which invites the general public to devise and design a new colony on Mars!

We're really keen to further our work with beacon technology and proximity based story-telling.  We'll be exploring a UK city's infrastructure to create new forms narratives and interactions, which inspire the general public to explore the potential for a crewed mission to Mars and our historic human fascination for the search for other life in the Solar System.

We're launching a regular social event for creatives and scientists interested in SciArt!

How do great arts and science projects come about? We'll be inviting the best brains from both worlds to de-mystify the process of creation and share their insights on what they've found works and well, ....what doesn't! Expect this all to be accompanied by good music and wine (obviously).

Keep the evening of Thursday 25 February free for our first soft launch event! More details to follow in the New Year.

Andy is currently curating part of Utopia 2016, a year-long season celebrating the 500th anniversary of the publication of Thomas More’s Utopia.

The project is a collaboration between Somerset House, The Cultural Institute at King's College London, and the Courtauld Institute and Gallery and will see artists, designers, provocateurs and thinkers experimenting with ways we might live, make, work and play.

The project launches on 25 January 2016 at Somerset House.

Virtual Reality and The Environment

We're delighted to be the producing partners of Cape Farewell’s latest Climate Change / Art project, Energy Renaissance, which explores virtual reality and decarbonisation.

The pilot VR experience is being developed with Hammerhead VR and will launch in early 2016.

Microbial Life and the Internet of Things

Mary Jane has also started developing a new project, which explores the potential outcomes of being able to sequence our microbes for improved health.  It will focus on new innovations in data analytics, wearable tech, connected products and synthetic biology.
....and that's just for starters!

If you want to know more, join in the conversation or help us make science and art projects, say hello or tweet us.

See you on the other side!

In a spirit of festive goodwill, here are some thoughts…

Tay-Yibah Aziz
