Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships at the

Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies, Durham University

 

The Centre for Nineteenth-Century Studies (CNCS) invites expressions of interest from outstanding candidates who wish to apply for prestigious Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships through Durham University. In particular, we welcome expressions of interest from eligible candidates working on topics related to interdisciplinary nineteenth-century studies. These Fellowships aim to provide opportunities for career development for those who are at a relatively early stage of their academic careers, but with a proven record of excellent research.

Those who wish to express interest in applying for a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships should contact CNCS Director, Professor Bennett Zon, bennett.zon[at]durham.ac.uk, and be prepared to provide the following information by 28 January 2016:

 

(a) curriculum vitae

(b) detailed account of the proposed research, (2 pages of A4, Times New Roman 12 pt). This should state the aims, objectives, method and publication plans, with particular attention to explanation of the significance of the subject, and the research problem and questions. This statement should be clear and precise, with bibliographical references given in full.

(c) abstract of the proposal in non-technical terms so as to be easily comprehensible to a non-expert.

(d) details of the research being undertaken in the department/centre at Durham which is relevant to your proposal.

 

Applicants will be sent comments on their proposal, and, if judged suitable for support, further advice will be provided on the draft application.  These applications undergo a process of scrutiny and selection by the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.  Those who proposals are to receive Faculty support will be informed in good time to enable any further refinement of the application, before submission to the Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship Scheme by its deadline of 4pm, 10 March 2016.

 

About CNCS

 

CNCS was founded in 2013 to increase and enhance the study of the nineteenth-century at Durham University. It seeks to bring together aspects of nineteenth-century research currently in progress at Durham University and other institutions. The aims of CNCS are: 

 

·  Shaping research in nineteenth-century studies through regional and international collaboration

·  Advancing interdisciplinary research by hosting conversations on long nineteenth-century studies

·  Disseminating scholarly research through seminars, lecture series, publications, and conferences

·  Providing opportunities for postgraduate and early career researchers to engage in regular

 research conversations and reading groups

·  Inspiring students through an interdisciplinary MA and doctoral supervisors with international

 expertise

·  Developing new links with cultural and heritage institutions to advance academic research through  

 cultural exchange
