**CFP pre-constituted panel(s) for NECS 2016 conference: Sonic Connectivity***
The NECS Sound and Music in Media Work Group is organising to submit one or more preconstituted panel proposals for consideration to the forthcoming NECS conference (Potsdam, Germany, 28–30 July 2016), taking a sound-focused approach to the conference's theme – ‘in/between: cultures of connectivity’ (see
http://necs.org). A preconstituted panel potentially allows for a more cohesive exploration of sound in this context, and we would encourage a broad range of responses to the theme.
Proposals are welcome for 15-20 minute papers on the subject of sound/music and time-based media (including radio, film, television, new media, game studies) that consider cultures or notions of connectivity. Possible topics could include, but are not limited to:
- sound, technology and connectivity
- sonic mediation across time and space
- cultures of connectivity in sound production (e.g. networks of film sound personnel; historical and theoretical approaches to sound production studies)
- the ‘connected’ aesthetic of sound and moving image media (e.g. the aesthetics of synch, thinking beyond the material heterogeneity of sound and moving image)
- sound studies, media studies and interdisciplinary connections
Please send abstracts of up to 150 words, plus 3-5 key bibliographical references, along with your name and institutional affiliation, to Dr Nessa Johnston (
[log in to unmask]) by Friday the 15th of January 2016. We will be in touch by Monday the 17th of January with a decision (The general submission deadline is the 31st of January 2016).
Best wishes,
Dr Nessa Johnston, Edge Hill University, UK.
PS - If you are not currently a member of the NECS Sound and Music in Media Work Group, consider this an invitation to join!
