Dear colleague,

You are warmly welcomed to submit an abstract to the following session at
EGU 2016:

*TS6.5 Tectonics of the Central Asian Orogenic Belt and comparisons to
other Circum-Pacific accretionary orogens*

*Abstract submission:*
http://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2016/session/21679

*Abstract deadline:* *13 January 2016*

*Session **description:*

The Central Asian Orogenic Belt, one of the largest accretionary orogen in
the world, represents an important episode of continental growth during the
Phanerozoic. The accretion and evolution of this orogenic collage may have
involved both vertical addition of mantle-sourced magmatic rocks, and
lateral accretion of continental and oceanic crust via continuous
subduction, trench migration, oroclinal bending, terrane accretion and
strike-slip systems. All these tectonic processes have inevitably
contributed to continental growth. Recent work has highlighted similarities
between accretionary processes in the Central Asian Orogenic Belt and other
Circum-Pacific orogenic belts (e.g. Tasmanides, eastern Australia), which
could potentially shed new light on the origin of accretionary orogens and
their contribution to continental growth. This session embraces all aspects
of research on accretionary orogenesis and continental growth, and will
particularly welcome contributions from studies on the Central Asian
Orogenic Belt and other Circum-Pacific orogenic belts.

We look forward to seeing you in Vienna!

Kind regards,

Pengfei Li, Gideon Rosenbaum, Wenjiao Xiao, Karel Schulmann, Keda Cai
