Registration is now open for the conference ‘Comedy on stage and page: satirical cartoons and stand-up’. This two-day conference, to be held at the University of Kent on 14-15 January 2016, celebrates the British Stand-Up Comedy Archive, the British Cartoon Archive, and other archives of popular and comic performance. We aim to bring together scholars, archivists, comedians, cartoonists and others with an interest in documenting cartoons and stand-up comedy.
Papers include:
Mary Luckhurst on the cultural impact of stand-up
Ivor Dembina on censorship in live comedy
James Neill on the American Comix Movement
Tim Miles on the relationship between comedians and audiences
Oliver Double on documenting the creative processes of stand-up
Kate Fox on northern comedy
Adolfo Carratalá on cartoons of the Pope
