  * • How do you create characters that are missing from history, and how can stories explore Imperial history and its legacy?
  * • How do you research a character from a culture that does not have a written history tradition?
  * • How can writers impact diversity on screen and on stage?
This is a writer’s group with a difference. It is a unique and free opportunity to explore these questions alongside fellow writers, led by an experienced screenwriter and doctoral researcher who is studying the representation of Indigenous Australians on film and in TV drama.
The aim of these workshops is to develop your own screenplay. Along the way we aim to increase your abilities and confidence to tell stories from the Imperial era with Indigenous characters as the protagonist and antagonist – in other words, to write the untold stories from history for the screen and to create characters who are missing from national narratives of history. During the seminars we will have the chance to engage with scholars from information studies, art history, history and English literature. We will read each other’s outlines and screenplays. And we will write!
