How To Use Questionnaires For Impact Evaluation

THE WORKSHOP 

The workshop introduces delegates to how, why and when to use questionnaires for impact evaluation. This will include perspectives from experienced evaluators on the common pitfalls in questionnaire design that can reduce the quality of an impact evaluation, alongside practical guidelines for ensuring are good quality.

This practical workshop will address the following questions:

  1. What makes questionnaires valuable as a tool for impact evaluation? Why use questionnaires?
  2. When (or what situations) make using questionnaires for impact evaluation inappropriate?
  3. How can you spot poor quality questions and response options? (These can lead to inaccuracies in your data.)
  4. How to develop good quality questions and response options?
  5. How can you analyse data from open-ended questions in your questionnaire?
  6. How to decide whether to collect data using online or iPad-based questionnaires?

THE SPEAKERS

Experts in impact evaluation will be presenting at and facilitating the event:
Dr Eric Jensen and Monae Verbeke.

Dr Eric Jensen

Dr Eric Jensen (Associate Professor, Sociology Dept, University of Warwick) is a leading social scientist specializing in innovative methods of conducting impact evaluation research. He holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Cambridge and has led many groundbreaking projects on new social research technologies.

Monae Verbeke

Monae Verbeke (MSc, University of Warwick, Sociology Dept) is an international evaluator, specialising in the use of mixed-methods evaluation and conducting impact evaluation. She has conducted mixed-methods research for a wide-range of projects, including arts museums, science festivals and education research.
