To be fair to Australians, here are some of the responses to Little Black Rock:

Hi all,
I was not aware of BHP's UCL connections. But, here in Australia they are a major sponsor of an organisation called the Ethics Centre, which is a nice way for them to greenwash their involvement in environmental destruction. Naomi Klein presented at an Ethics Centre event earlier in the year. It was not questioned by anyone in mainstream
or independent media which provides some indication of the success of this particular greenwashing strategy.

They are also a member of the Minerals Council, the major lobby group for the Australian coal industry (and the force behind Australia's abominable emissions targets).  Here is some of their recent handiwork http://littleblackrock.com.au (note: this is not satire).

So, I am not at all surprised by their negligence in this case.

Nice company to keep and I am sure it is producing independent research that has no problem criticising large corporations that cause damage around the world.

Dear Victor,

Yes. My UCL IRDR colleague David Alexander  https://www.ucl.ac.uk/rdr/people/david-alexander gave a live television interview to al-Jazeera on 6 November regarding this disaster, the same day that it was highlighted on GNDR's #365disasters campaign  https://twitter.com/globalnetworkdr/status/662604437962231808 Plenty of news articles from around the world covered the events, but I do not know if anyone is researching it.

Warmest regards,

Ilan
