Dear all,

Here in Scotland we are staggered at this initiative and would urge everyone affected to provide feedback on the fees consultation that closes on 5pm Friday 18th December.

Re; registering every premises I asked that question and the response was:

Further to our discussion yesterday, I have spoken to my colleague and our plan currently is that you would only need to register your company occupational health company once and that you would just tell us each of the sites you visit.

Looking forward to seeing how they manage what may be updated lists weekly as our business's all expand and contract all the time

Some of my colleagues are calling this a stealth tax

Points to consider; what is going to be supervised? will it be premises or practices or reports or recruitment ?

Who is going to be sufficiently qualified to undertake the role? Can they be in placer by spring 2015?

is a single fee appropriate given the vast difference in income between say an independent sole practitioner and a multi national ?

Will we still need NMC / SEQOHS or is this regulatory body going to take over??

Also there are no plans to look at cosmetic clinics -how did that happen? It says Beauticians and beauty therapists that provide aesthetic treatments  are not included .... at present

There is a survey monkey site for feedback please look at it and consider completing

HI Rosemary
It comes under the
National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978 Have you seen the following website  http://www.healthcareimprovementscotland.org/our_work/inspecting_and_regulating_care/independent_healthcare.aspx It states:

In April 2016, Healthcare Improvement Scotland will start regulating independent clinics in Scotland. Independent clinics are defined in the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978 as clinics that are not part of a hospital and from which a medical practitioner or dental practitioner provides a service, which is not part of the National Health Service. The term ‘service’ includes consultations, investigations and treatments. If you are the provider of an independent clinic (as defined above), you will need to, register your service with us from April 2016.

If you are a provider of an independent clinic and a registered nurse, midwife or dental care professional (clinical dental technician, dental hygienist, dental nurse, dental technician, dental therapist, orthodontic therapist), you will also have to register from April 2016, following the proposed amendment to the definition of independent clinics.

It appears to be primarily due to cosmetic surgery concerns e.g., breast implants and will be a legal requirement. It also appears to be about treating patients so would they see OH as under that definition, hard to gauge given there is no definition for a consultation?

We haven’t had a query on jisc about this before so if anyone can help Rosemary please respond.

Karen

Subject: [OCC-HEALTH] New Independent Healthcare Regulation Paper

Hi,

I carryout a lot of work in Scotland and we have learned that we are to come under this Healthcare Regulation Body as an they believe we work as an independent clinic similar to an independent hospital.  It is going to cost us at least £3,500 which is a large fee for a small company.   Have any of your members heard about this, I believe it just affects Scotland.   Any more relevant information would be helpful as the gentleman I spoke to did not understand what was the function of Occupational Health but for every different clinic area I would have to pay a separate fee.
