Hi all,

Huffington Post have been leading with brand new Media Reform Coalition research that examines media coverage of Jeremy Corbyn's first week in office as Labour leader. We found that 181 out of 292 news stories (61% of the total) were negative with only 19 positive stories (6% of the total). In terms of comment pieces, 88 out of 155 (57%) were negative with only 34 (22%) positive towards a figure who had just received an overwhelming mandate from Labour supporters. You can read the Huff Post story here<http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/11/26/jeremy-corbyn-media-coverage_n_8653886.html?utm_content=buffer1a9ee&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer> and download our full report here<http://www.mediareform.org.uk/?p=4643>.

The coverage shows the need for remedies that can address the ability of a handful of companies and owners to exert such a powerful influence on political culture. MRC has produced a draft ownership bill, supported by the National Union of Journalists, that will launched at a discussion in Parliament at 5pm on Monday 7 December in Committee Room 2A. Speakers include Chi Onwurah MP and Baroness jenny Jones. Details are available here<https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/legislate-to-change-it-a-draft-bill-for-media-democracy-tickets-19636392980>. Please come and bring your students.

We have also redesigned our website so that there is now a comprehensive and accessible resources section<http://www.mediareform.org.uk/resources> which has links to a range of policy and research documents as well as links to relevant films and books.

all the best
